Sherman County Historical Society applied for and received a $3,500 Humanities CARE Grant from the Humanities Nebraska. The Grant is intended to reach a diverse network of urban, rural, small, medium, and large cultural organizations serving a wide range of constituencies statewide. The funding guidelines for the grant provided non-profit organizations up to 10% of their annual operating budgets (up to $10,000) in unrestricted funding to assist with programs, retention of staff, and general operating support during the COVID-19 crisis. Since the pandemic has made it difficult to fund-raise, this grant could not have come at a better time for non-profits organizations. As stated, the funds must be used for operational uses only (insurance, heating, cooling, staff, salaries, etc.) and is not a matching-funds grant. We are appreciative of the funds, and while it does not cover all of our expenses, we still rely on donations, memberships, book sales, and tour donations.
